Many thanks go to Gill Wroe who raised £300 towards the new community hall by auctioning her Summer in Flaxton painting.
The winning bidder was Amanda Cox.
A wonderful Coffee & Cake event was held in the Village Hall on Sunday 22nd March to raise funds for the Flaxton Community Hall project and it proved to be a great success.
The event was well attended by villagers, who came together to enjoy a friendly afternoon of conversation, delicious homemade cakes, and freshly brewed tea and coffee while supporting an important local cause.
The event raised an impressive £307.70 towards the Flaxton Community Hall fundraising target, demonstrating the strong community spirit within the village and the continued support for the development of the new Community Hall.
A special thank you goes to Flaxton Social for organising the event, as well as to everyone who baked cakes, helped with preparations, served refreshments, and attended on the day. Their time, effort and generosity made the event both enjoyable and successful.
Events like this continue to bring the community together and play an important role in moving the Flaxton Community Hall project closer to its fundraising goal.
We are pleased to announce that £2,000 has been awarded to the Flaxton Community Hall project from Two Ridings Yorkshire.
This funding has been specifically awarded to support the development of a new Village Hall website, helping us to improve communication, share updates, and strengthen our fundraising efforts as the project progresses.
A special thank you goes to Phil for the considerable time and effort he has dedicated to working on this project. His commitment and expertise are greatly appreciated and have been instrumental in moving this forward.
We are extremely grateful to Two Ridings Yorkshire for their support and look forward to launching the new website soon.
The Planning Application was submitted on 1st October 2025 and consultations were undertaken by the Council with the various statutory consultees.
The Planning Case Officer has confirmed that she is happy with the principle of development, however, responses have been received from the Parish Council, Highway Authority, Drainage (Yorkshire Water and Intenal Drainage Board), Environmental Health, Ecology and Tree Officers.
Revisions to the scheme required by Highways have been addressed and agreed.
Conditions required by the Council Environmental Health Officers are acceptable.
Comments on drainage and ecology are currently being investigated and will be responded to shortly.
Objections from the Tree Officer in respect of the removal of the Ash Tree at the rear of the site resulted in a site meeting in January with Council Officers, Cllr. Caroline Goodrick and ourselves.
We are currently considering the options in respect of the tree with the aid of our Tree Consultant and we will be responding in due course in light of the recommendations received.
Progression of the application by the Council continues, but will not be completed until all matters are resolved in due course. It’s likely that a decision on the application will not be received until after Easter.

We are delighted to share some wonderful news in support of the Flaxton Community Hall project.
A hugely talented local artist, Gill Wroe (Ramsden), has very generously donated one of her original artworks, “Flaxton in Spring”, to help raise funds for the new Community Hall. Gill’s work beautifully captures the character and charm of our village, and this particular piece celebrates Flaxton at its very best — full of colour, life and the promise of warmer days ahead.
The painting is being offered to the highest bidder, and we are thrilled to say that bidding has already reached £276.00.
There is still time to take part if you would like to own this special piece of local art while supporting an important community project. The deadline for any further bids is 12 noon on 22nd February 2026.
Every pound raised will go directly towards the Community Hall project, helping us move one step closer to creating a modern, welcoming space for everyone in the village.
Our sincere thanks go to Gill for her generosity and support — and to everyone who has placed a bid so far. We look forward to announcing the winning bidder very soon!
*UPDATE 22/2/26 – The winning bid was £300, placed by Chris and Janet Irish*
Fundraising for the Community Hall Project is split into several different areas: applying for grants, asking for donations from villagers, seeking corporate donations, running events, developing merchandise and individual fundraising activities.
The Grants Team continues to make positive progress in securing funding for the new Flaxton Community Hall, working towards our overall capital funding target of £380,000.
We are pleased to announce that an initial grant of £2,000 has been successfully awarded by the Two Ridings Foundation. This funding will cover the design and build of a brand-new Village Hall website, which is due to be launched later this month. The website will play an important role in keeping residents informed, promoting events, and supporting future fundraising efforts.
Alongside this, the Grants Team is working closely with North Yorkshire Council to help facilitate introductions and connections with additional funding bodies. This includes organisations such as Community First Yorkshire, who provide access to a range of funding opportunities suitable for community capital projects like ours.
Research is also ongoing into a variety of smaller funding streams to help build momentum towards our target. Every grant secured, large or small, or donation received brings us another step closer to delivering a new, modern, and sustainable community facility for Flaxton and the surrounding areas.
We will continue to keep the community updated as further progress is made.
